I am thrilled to share with you today~ one version of the ghosting technique!

 

VersaMark damask image and stamp on cardstock. Sprinkle Transcendence Embossing Powder on stamped image and gently shake off excess powder. Heat the embossing powder with heat tool. Ink up sponge and work ink into the cardstock~ I rub my sponge in circles. I LOVE seeing the image POP! Isn't that cool!?

 

I prefer to use a sponge when doing this technique, but you can also use a brayer or use your ink pad and rub it directly onto the cardstock. See what works for you! You can take a rag and wipe off any ink that might be on your embossed image.

 
 

Add scor-tape or whatever double-sided adhesive you prefer.

 

I recommend not cutting your ribbon until you are finished. Be sure and cover all tape while creating your ruffle~ or your card will most likely stick to the envelope! You can leave your ribbon straight, but I think adding ruffles adds a lot of character!

 

It's safe to cut the ribbon now!  {smiles}

 

I always cut my image in half so that I can create two cards per image.

Hello Blog Peeps!

Welcome to another "A Card a Day in the Month of May!  Today is my day, and I'm really excited to share my card with you.  
I created my card waaaaay back in March!  Yes!  You read that right!!!!  I was AHEAD of the game for change.  I used the Exotic Bird Collages set (T-3110) and the Damask Backgrounder set (T-3276); two of my favorite stamp sets!!!!!

I used a yellow Prisma color pencil to add just a hint of color to the pelican's beak.  The words are from the Sophisticated Sentiments set (TB-3364).

Something that I LOVE to do is create "FAUX" stuff.  Faux seude, faux sanding--love all the FAUX stuff.  So for this card, I made some faux scallops by punching out circles to create scallops--see?

 
 
I know it's been done before but just in case you hadn't seen it, now you have!  :}  Just think how easy it is to change the size of your faux scallops--little circles, little scallops; big circles, big scallops! Love it!! 

Something else I try to do with each card I create is to write the "recipe" on the back of card RIGHT AFTER I create THE final version of my card.

 

I list the stamp sets I used, the pads, accessories, everything I need to know to re-create it again.  See the date I completed my finished card???  If you know me, you know that "Yuki" and "self-discipline" do not go together!!!  I have no self-discipline, but I do try really really hard to write the recipe on the back of each and every card I create.  (If only I thought housework was just as important!)

One Layer Wonder Cards!

 

Over on our TAC Paper Crafting Community  we have a  One Layer Wonders Challenge  happening and I needed to make a card for it!  The rules are simple ~ no layers!  You can add embellishments like buttons, ribbon, eyelets ... but you can only use one layer of cardstock.  Okay ~ so it SOUNDS easy ... however I soon discovered how much of a challenge this was for me!  NO LAYERS!  WOW!

The card above is my first card I did for this challenge and my FAVORITE!  I LOVE it!  {so humble right}.  Well ... this card came so close to being trashed ... it's not even funny!  After I stamped the images and added the stitched line I hated how this card looked.  HATED!  And then Sophie suggested I color it.  Orange to be exact.  So ... I did what she said.  I didn't start liking it until the owl was pretty much colored in.  And then I decided to add some color to WHOO.  I liked it even more!  Next I added white dots and highlights.  And some Glossy Accents.

I set this card aside and returned to it after dinner.  OMGosh!  I LOVED it!  WOW!  I don't know what happened in that hour or so I was gone but that's all it took! 

Below you can really see the Glossy Accents.  I just added them to the eyes and beak.

 

If you look really closely you might be able to see that I colored over the eyes and beak with my brown marker.  And then I highlighted certain parts of WHOO to draw more emphasis to it.  I also colored in the circles on WHOO with my brown marker because after I start something ... I just can't stop!

Next I wanted to go for a modern, clean looking card.  This is what I came up with:

 

I stamped the images with Tea Leaves VersaMagic and embossed with Transcendence Emboss Powder. Then used my craft knife to cut a couple of slits and then added the ribbon.

 

Next ... I HAD to try a circle card!  I folded my cardstock in half like normal and then ran it through my Spellbinders using my large circle nesties die.  Then I stamped the background image in LuLu Lavender and then used Sweet Plum to stamp my greeting and embossed it with Transcendence Emboss Powder.

I added the ribbon to kind of hide the straight edge of the card but I also liked the soft, feminine touch it added.

Supplies Card 1:  Kraft cardstock, burnt umber palette ink, whooo loves ya ta3324, what a hoot t3043, brown marker, prismacolor pencils, white gel pen, glossy accents, odorless mineral spirits

Supplies Card 2:  Premium white cardstock, tea leaves versamagic ink, damask backgrounder t3276, noble notes t3373, white ribbon, transcendence emboss powder, static magic, white ribbon

Supplies Card 3:  Premium white cardstock, circle nesties dies, branches in bloom t3262, joyful notes t3334, lulu lavender and sweet plum memento ink, white ribbon, transcendence emboss powder

Copic Marker Tutorial ~ Mice Tag

I designed this little tag with the idea that it would be darling to place on a 'pillow present' for someone special ... I hope you like it as much as I do!

I used these Copic markers from The Angel Company ~ Caboodles Set A.  R81, R85, B91, B95, YG93 and YG95.  In addition ~ I used my W1, W3, W5, W7 and my Colorless Blender.

My goal was to try and achieve a 'softer' look so I stuck to only 2 colors each from my pinks, blues and greens ... mostly because I have a tendency to really use color boldly.

TIP:  You don't HAVE to use Copics in 2's, 3's, or even 4's.  Use as many or as few markers as you'd like!

And of course ... you have to have them all sitting there ... looking pretty while you work!  {smiles}

I stamped my image on our Caboodles Cardstock using my Tuxedo Black Memento ink.

Next, I took my W1 ~ which is this luscious warm gray and colored the image as you see here.  I wanted to lay down a 'base coat of color' so that the colors I added would be more muted.  My goal was country-ish, homie-ish, comfort.  (I know ... those aren't really words ... but you get what I mean ... don't you!).

After I laid down the color I continued to add color on top of this like I normally would.  I spared showing you that here because it was all basic and very similar to the post just prior to this one.  And remember ~ click on any image and it will show a larger photo in your browser. 

I wanted my sheets to be ... I hate to say bland ... but that's what my daughter would call this color ... bland.  So I used my W1 again and colored as shown below.

Next I added some shading with my W3 and then went back over with W1 to blend.

This next image is one where I used the W1 and then used my blending pen to lighten and soften my lines.  I've placed an arrow on the image because you can see that ever so gently my ink began to feather.  Sometimes that happens when using the colorless blending pen ... especially if it's juicy.  So use caution!

Here is the image after adding more highlights with W5 and W7. 

I wanted to try and make little 'white mice' this time.  I hadn't attempted that yet so this was the perfect opportunity.

I used my W1 and inked my mice as shown.

Then I gently softened it up with my Colorless Blender.

Put all of the steps together and this is what I ended up with.

This was an EASY image to cut out so I HAD to take advantage of that and then I pop dotted the little sweeties onto my tag!  And for a touch of sophistication I stamped our Damask Backgrounder onto my cardstock with VersaMark ink.  I also used the 'back' side of the cardstock because the flip side has texture.  I used a piece of jute and off-centered my eyelet.  

TIP:  Before you attach the mice ~ attach your jute or ribbon and then hold up the tag.  Place the mice where they look cutest on the hang tag.  So easy!
